Three Tips for Keeping Your New Years Resolutions

087Most people feel invigorated by the fresh start of a New Year to begin resolutions that will enable them to be the best versions of themselves. However, most resolutions tend to teeter off in tenacity within a few months. The Holistic Home: Feng Shui For Mind Body Spirit Space reveals how by connecting your self and home together, you will have an advantage in obtaining your goals and reaching a longer lasting transformation. Here are some tips that you can do within your own home that will help create the most supportive environment possible for you to stick to your goals.

Resolutions

Make At Least One Of Your Goals Extremely Obtainable

Even though this may seem like an easy out, the psychological component of goal completion creates an undeniable feeling of achievement, which becomes the boost to propel you on to triumphantly tackle the next goal and the next. As this cycle of completion and success begets itself, before you know it you have achieved what once may have felt insurmountable.

Holistic Home Tip:  As you tackle your “within reach” goal, break down a home task you’ve been meaning to do into  small, medium and large components. If de-cluttering is your goal, start with the easiest chore, like cleaning out a junk drawer. Once that is done, move on to closets then eventually to an entire basement or attic. Dovetailing the completion of your physical, domestic tasks in tandem with your other “easier” goals creates another layer of fortitude to easily carry you through to the end.

Stay Focused, Motivated and Committed

Changing behavior, routines and patterns is hard. It’s easy to make excuses. And deep down when you make excuses, you know you are doing it, which can make you feel even worse. Try breaking down your goals – whether its to lose weight, work out more, save money, find love – into concrete steps to make it happen.

Holistic Home Tip: When your environment is clean and clear, your focus will be too. An easy task to instigate your motivation is to clear off all your surfaces. If your counter tops, coffee table and desk are clear, your thinking and motivation will be clearer too. To continue this exercise in clarity, clean your windows while focusing on the steps you’ve written down to achieve your goals.

Don’t Give Up. There Will be Bad Days

I know about determination. My book, The Holistic Home, is a direct, tangible result of doggedness and drive for 15 years straight. I had shitty days of publishers telling me “It won’t happen” and “I just don’t get it” and “this fad is over.” Some days were tough and I cried and felt defeated. But I told myself that “tomorrow is another day”. I tried not to beat myself up. Don’t beat yourself up. If your goal is to lose weight and you slip and eat something decadent, well, “tomorrow is another day”.  You got this.

Holistic Home-1Holistic Home Tip: Just buy the book, The Holistic Home: Feng Shui For Mind Body Spirit Space. It will help you make the connections between your self and your space and make you look at your space in a totally different perspective.

Happy New Year! Wishing you all things good in 2016 for your mind, body, spirit and space.
